2025 gARTen 8 – More Light!
In the days of analog photography, every darkroom session involved a preparatory ritual: The photographic paper was tested for its light sensitivity using masks. This meant that the first print always produced a striped pattern, exposed at specific intervals of seconds with „more light.“ The result after development was a photographic paper layered in bars from white to black – each bar corresponding to a specific exposure time. Back then, we called this the „exposure wedge.“
The current theme, „More Light!“, is represented in my photographs as a transition from dark to light, similar to the exposure wedge of that era.
The photographs are thematically linked by their subject matter, which is drawn from nature. Some subjects appear without scale. In some cases, almost abstract forms are recognizable, while in others, specific landscape features are depicted.
The gradation of light intensity is important – here, a staging of the lighting intensity is conceptually planned, which allows a concretely legible sequence of the statement ‚More light!‘ and a reference to my personal beginnings in what was then still analog photography.
